Gjegevey is a Woodlouse-kinden slave and advisor to the Imperial throne. Old even by the standards of his long-lived kinden, he was kept on as a curiosity by Emperor Alvdan II and became close with Alvdan's younger sister, Seda. He is wise and kind but seems to have ambiguous morals, supporting Seda even after she became a murderous tyrant. After Seda's ascension to Empress, Gjegevey served as her closest and most trusted advisor, helping her deal with her loss of Aptitude and advising her on Inapt lore.

The Air War  []

Gjegevey is dismayed when Seda begins pursuing lore regarding the Worm and seeks to dissuade her from her course. He takes her to Coretsy and shows her one of the Seals which keep the Underworld separate from the world above ground, and is relieved when Seda agrees to seek magical power from another source. He collaborates with Tegrec and the two of them agree to lead Seda to Argastos instead, but they are suddenly arrested by General Brugan and his fellow conspirators. Their captivity does not last long, as Seda learns of the conspiracy and has all of the conspirators bar Brugan slaughtered. Gjegevey then flies east to the Imperial Eighth Army's camp and brings orders for General Roder to halt his advance on Sarn, as the Empress herself is coming to join them.

War Master's Gate[]

Gjegevey accompanies Seda into the heart of the Netheryon in search of Argax, the hall of Argastos. They eventually arrive, but Gjegevey detects a sudden threat from the Rekef Major Ostrec and throws himself in front of Seda. Ostrec is really Esmail in disguise and the man's deadly hands carve through Gjegevey's chest, killing him instantly. His sacrifice enrages Seda, as Gjegevey was the only person she considered anything close to a friend.
